Beining named HCAC Player of the Week
December 14, 2015
BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University’s Rachel Beining (Ottoville) helped the Beavers stay unbeaten on the season with wins over Earlham and Rose-Hulman and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The Beavers improved to 7-0 on the season with a 3-0 mark in HCAC play. It marks the second time in three weeks that a Bluffton woman has been named Player of the Week following sophomore Macey Sheerer's (Bucyrus) selection two weeks ago.
The junior center scored a career-high 23 points with nine rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in an 82-54 Beavers win at Earlham. She followed that effort with her 10th career double-double, scoring 14 points with 12 boards in a 45-36 win at home over Rose-Hulman. For the week, the junior averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 68.4 percent (13-for-19) from the field.
The seven victories established a new school record for consecutive wins in a single season and it tied the Beavers for most consecutive victories overall. The 1978-79 team won four games to end the season before the 1979-80 squad won its first three for seven straight Bluffton women's wins.
Bluffton (7-0, 3-0 HCAC) will travel to Wooster for a 7:30 p.m. tip Friday, Dec. 18.
