Fall university concert Oct. 14
Bluffton University will host a concert featuring its Concert Band at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall. The performance, part of Homecoming weekend activities at Bluffton, is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken for music scholarships during intermission.
Dr. Roy Couch, assistant professor of music, will conduct a varied selection of music from some established names in wind band writing and exciting new composers. The band will perform “Chant and Jubilo” by W. Francis McBeth, “The Gathering of the Yeomen” by Robert W. Smith and selections from “William Byrd Suite” by Gordon Jacob. The concert also includes “Rise of the Firebird” by Michael Sweeney, “Spirals of Light” by Sean O-Loughlin and a beautiful treatment by Randall Standridge of a hymn tune called “In Simple Faith”.
