Doug Adams, folk singer, will perform a concert at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 19, in the main level of the Bluffton Public Library.

The native of Cincinnati has lived in northwestern Ohio for the past 27 years. He began his folk singing career in the late '60s and was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs and John Denver.

He performs old ballads and simple songs that tell the stories of the great folk era of the 1960s and 1970s. He will also incorporate some singing for youngsters during his program.

Want to join a Bluffton Lego club?

You can, but you need to be either age 1 through fifth grade to join. (Do we detect a lot of moaning among adult viewers?)

The Bluffton Public Library summer reading program, “Fizz, Boom, Read,” hopes to launch a Lego club called “Brain Builders,” according to Esther Birkey, youth services coordinator. That club is for kindergarteners through grade five.

“We want to promote constructive play and early engineering skills,” she told The Icon.

Jammin' at the library is tonight, Thursday, April 17.

Q: What's Jammin' all about?
A: We asked Charlie Saylor and here's his response:

We are scheduled for April and May and hopefully will continue beyond that. We meet for two hours on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room at the library, so that makes the April jam next Thursday, the 17th.  Tanya Augsburger is the library contact person or anyone interested can contact me at [email protected] or 419-358-8547.

On June 7, 2014, Mayor Dennis Gallant will join the Friends of The Bluffton Public Library in a 5K Run/Walk for Literacy.
