Feb. 8 final day to reserve tickets for Centre's sweetheart dinner dance

Tickets are still on sale for The Centre at Bluffton's sweetheart dinner dance. The event is Saturday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Centre, 601 N. Main St.

The final day to make reservations is Tuesday, Feb. 8, according to Brenda Gaines. Tickets are two for $65, and table of eight $216 (27 each), plus tax.

And now for a little spring thaw, think garage sales.

S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club(Sharing Hopes And Nourishing Needs Of Neighbors)

The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton (Sharing Hopes And Nourishing Needs Of Neighbors) is sponsoring its 8th annual community garage/craft sale on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26, at The Centre at Bluffton, 601 N. Main St.

The event is from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 25, and 9 a.m. to noon, and Saturday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Library offers "Super Bowl" fan package

Bluffton Public Library will be accepting silent bids for a "Super Bowl Fan Package" between Feb. 1 and Feb.19. The package contains a Wilson Super Bowl XLV football, an 8" x 10" signed print of Pittsburgh Steelers player number 43, Troy Polamalu, and two tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The minimum starting bid for the package valued at an estimated $150 or more is $75. Bids may be placed in person at the library's circulation desk. The winning bidder will be notified by telephone on Feb. 21. Cash payment will be required.

Youth book sale on February library calendar

The Bluffton Public Library Teen Advisory Group (TAG) will kick off Library Lovers Month with a youth book sale Feb. 7-11. More than 1,000 "slightly or very loved" children's and teen books will be available by donation during regular library hours. "The library has had many book sales in the past which mostly consisted of books for adults," said Youth Services Coordinator, Rikki Steingass. "I think it's wonderful that this is the first book sale to focus on materials for youth because they love books just as much as grown-ups!"

Oscar Velasquez offers youth and adult drawing and watercolor courses at library

Local artist Oscar Velasquez will offer a drawing and watercolor course at Bluffton Public Library for youth and adults.

Youth classes (grade school through junior high) will meet at the library on Wednesdays for five weeks from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 16.

Adult classes will meet at the library for five weeks on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m., beginning Feb. 17. No prior experience is necessary.

Students will learn drawing fundamentals and watercolor basics. A $75 course fee covers all supplies, including paper, paint, brushes and instruction.

Dessert and finger sandwiches

Perhaps it's the desserts and finger sandwiches. The assortment tempts you for more than one trip to the buffet table.

Or, it could be the warmth of the fireplace. Add to that a melodic Chopin etude performed in the background on a grand piano.
It is, oh, so relaxed an atmosphere, evident in the several conversations floating around the room.

Then comes the hot tea brewed to your table offering so tempting a flavor on an otherwise cold wintry afternoon in northwest Ohio.
