Carissa Luginbill, Bluffton High School senior, is the May BHS student of the month. She is a member of Math Club, SADD Club, a class officer and National Honor Society. She is a Club 56 student leader and is a member of the BHS yearbook staff.
Carissa received an Ohio Governor's Art Show award, a Buckeye Creativity Award, Carrols-Burger King Scholarship and was BHS homecoming queen. She plans to attend Eastern Mennonite University.
She is the daughter of Doug and Paula Luginbill, 224 W. College Ave., Bluffton.
The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club presented its annual "Service to Humanity" Scholarship Awards at the Bluffton High School 32nd annual awards program on May 16, according to Duane Bollenbacher of the club.
The club provided two $750 scholarships. Winners were seniors Hanne` Burkholder (left) and Kaitlin Thompson (right), each of whom was chosen by virtue of her past, current, and expected future commitment to serving others.
Hanne` is the daughter of Steve and Laurel Burkholder and plans to study speech pathology at Kent State University.
The Internal Revenue Service announced another expansion of its "Fresh Start" initiative by offering more flexible terms to its Offer in Compromise (OIC) program that will enable some of the most financially distressed taxpayers clear up their tax problems and in many cases more quickly than in the past.
"This phase of Fresh Start will assist some taxpayers who have faced the most financial hardship in recent years," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. "It is part of our multiyear effort to help taxpayers who are struggling to make ends meet."
