The Bluffton Lady Pirate softball team finished up their NWC season at 7-2 Wednesday with a 10-4 win over the Allen East Mustangs.

Bluffton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Brianna Laing and Shannon McKamey each belted base hits and were able to score on an error by the Mustangs as they attempted to pick off McKamey stealing second. Molly Lengyel stepped up to the plate and crushed a double to left field and her pinch runner, Olivia Hunt, scored on an RBI error hit by Katie Palte.

Two new Eagle Scouts

Brass and woodwind musicians of all ages are invited to join the Bluffton Merchant Band. This community ensemble will perform music from different eras in history, celebrating Bluffton's 150th Sesquicentennail. Limited numbers of instruments are available to borrow.

The Bluffton Sesqui String Band was formed to help celebrate Bluffton's 150 years in the 2011 Sesquicentennial Festival this summer.

According to Wendy Chappell-Dick, this old-time music string band is learning fiddle tunes appropriate for Bluffton's Historic Costume Ball, planned for June 25. A historic string band can include guitars, mandolins, fiddles, banjos, penny whistles, flutes, recorders, bass, and possible a viola. All instruments should be played at an intermediate level.

Taylor Steele and Justin Neufeld Weaver were awarded the Eagle Scout rank, the highest attainable rank in the Boy Scouts of America at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor held April 23 at the town hall.

Steele is the son of Steven and Tracy Steele. Taylor's Eagle service project was to renovate the restroom at Buckeye Park.

Justin Neufeld Weaver is the Son of Paul and Laurel Neufeld Weaver. Justin's Eagle Scout service project was the renovation of a flower bed at village park.
