After a dominating Homecoming win over Anderson last week, the Bluffton University football team hit the road to face the Hanover College Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 14. After a slow start by the Beavers, they were able to come back from a 17-7 halftime deficit to lead 28-24 in the fourth quarter. However, a late touchdown by the Panthers gave the home team a 31-28 victory as Bluffton dropped to 2-4 (2-2 HCAC) on the season.
The Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College traditionally lives up to its name with tough collegiate cross country across fields from five or six NCAA regions. This year’s edition was no exception. The Beaver harriers raced aggressively, producing quality placings and times in this final tune-up prior to the HCAC Championship. The women’s team finish of 16 in a field of 29 teams is the best in school history at this high-caliber meet with the best women’s individual finish produced as well.
The Bluffton University women's soccer team kept Hanover off the scoreboard for nearly 70 minutes, but the Panthers netted two late tallies for the shutout victory. It marked the fewest goals a Hanover women's team has scored against the Beavers since a 1-0 Panther victory in the 2011 HCAC championship match. Bluffton slipped to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover improved to 10-3 and 4-1 in the conference.
