I am contacting you about the Blaze of Lights.

The committee from the last 15 years are no longer putting up the display, so it is sent back to the town.

I have been in contact with the mayor and set up dates are Saturday, Nov 11, and Nov 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.

We have a real need for help. A paper was passed at chamber and only 1 person signed up to help. If we are to continue to have the Blaze we need more help.

Groups who can help are church groups,  Boy Scouts and families or individuals.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team served up a third Heartland Conference win in a row with a three-set sweep of rival Defiance College on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Sommer Center. The Beavers improved to 3-1 in the HCAC and 12-9 overall, while Defiance (8-9, 3-1 HCAC) suffered its first conference setback.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team surrendered two second half goals en route to a 2-0 victory by Mount St. Joseph on a rainy Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017. Bluffton dipped to 1-11 and 1-3 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved to 4-7-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in the HCAC.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team struggled to generate offense in a 4-0 loss to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017. MSJ improved to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in the Heartland Conference, while the Beavers slipped to 2-10 and 1-3 in the HCAC.

Mount St. Joseph went up 1-0 midway through period one before tacking on three tallies in the second half en route to the convincing victory.

Wendy Chappell-Dick and the Anabaptist singers to share new approach to martyr songs

When Wendy Chappell-Dick, a 2008 graduate of Bluffton University’s MBA program, was in high school she saw the “Mirror of the Martyrs” exhibit for the first time on campus. As an adult, she is unveiling a unique approach to learning about Anabaptist martyrs during the exhibit’s second visit to campus.
 
“I remember the exhibit being very impactful, and I loved it,” said Chappell-Dick. “The exhibit probably sparked my lifelong interest in the martyrs because of how moving it is.”
 

SRK-Ohio donates its fire truck to the village

Bluffton Fire Department acquired a new piece of equipment and it arrived as a gift.

SRK-Ohio, formerly DTR Industries, donated its industrial fire truck to the village earlier this month.

In making the donation at Monday's council meeting, Don Camper, vice president of human resources of SRK-Ohio, said that the village and SRK-Ohio have had a long and important relationship.

"The village has been a staunch supporter of SRK-Ohio's business and a great neighbor," he said.

Ohio Northern University music and theatre arts students will present "Carrie the Musical" at The Freed Center from Oct. 19-22.

The show is adapted from Stephen King's horror novel "Carrie" but has gone through many rewrites from the time the musical was originally produced in England to a limited 1988 Broadway production to an 0ff Broadway revival.

Briefly, here's the story: Carrie White is a misfit - awkward, unattractive, heavy.  At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd and virtually invisible to everyone else.

Andrew Steingass, potter, work featured at Gallery 323

Andrew Steingass of rural Ada is this month’s featured artist at Gallery 323, Bluffton. Steingass recently began showing pieces at the gallery, located at 323 N. Main St.

He talks about grog, slip, and recipes. He burns wood at 2,350 degrees...even in the summer.

That's Andrew (Andy) Steingass, a lifelong resident of Ada, and a ceramicist.

Pleasant View United Methodist Church and Mt. Cory United Methodist Church host two events this month.

Pleasant View United Methodist Church will host a soup luncheon on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Proceeds will benefit 10-year-old Owen Weaver of Bluffton. The church is located at 300 Twp. Rd. 37, Bluffton.

Mt. Cory United Methodist Church will host its annual fall festival and chicken barbecue Saturday, Oct. 21, from 4-11 p.m. at Bethel Family Life Center, 201 W. Washington St., Mt. Cory. 

Oct. 23 presentation by Dr. C. Arnold Snyder

Dr. C. Arnold Snyder, professor emeritus of history at Conrad Grebel University, will present “Hiding in Plain Sight: Swiss Anabaptism in the Later 16th Century” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 in Bluffton University’s Kreider Room of Marbeck Center and “Toleration in the Reformation: Historical Reflections for Today,” at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Yoder Recital Hall.
