Dale Seefeldt, who lived in India most of his life, was installed as pastor of Christian Education and Family Ministries on Sept. 8 at Ebenezer Mennonite church.
Despite his years in India, he holds a strong connection to Bluffton. His wife, Ruth, is the daughter of former Ebenezer pastor, Charles Warren. In addition Ebenezer Mennonite had earlier commissioned and sent he and his wife as missionaries.
“I moved to India in 1951 at the age of four,” Seefeldt said. “My parents were missionaries.”
One of Bluffton’s oldest congregations, St. John’s United Church of Christ, celebrates its 140th anniversary Sunday, Sept. 15, according to Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.
Using the theme “Joy in the journey,” the congregation has several events planned during the day.
Rev. Charles Jordan, a son of the congregation, will preach the anniversary sermon, titled “Reaching into the future with faithfulness.” The service starts at 10:30 a.m.
First Mennonite "Mennonite Women" will hold their first meeting of the fall at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, in the church fellowship hall.
Greg and Synthia Arnette of Findlay will tell about WeServe.coffee, a coffee shop in Findlay that has 100 percent of its profits going to local and global charities.
The Pandora United Methodist Church will host a program to foster better understanding of Islam. People in the United States have very little understanding of the history of Islam and its connection to Judaism and Christianity. The World of Belief: Inside Islam – is a two part video and discussion presentation will inform participants on the foundations of this major world religion and guide to understanding how Islam functions in the global community.
Part One will be Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. (These are the same session repeated.)
The week of Sept. 8 through 15 you might see a lot of bright gold and black t-shirts being worn by people all over Bluffton carrying rakes or hammers or paintbrushes and the like, and wearing work gloves.
Who are these people, and what will they be doing?
Well, they'll be the people of English Lutheran Church, and they'll be doing acts of random kindness and intentional acts of service as they participate in The AmazingRACE-Week of Service event.
